The Caring for Miracles Foundation was  launched in September 2021 in pursuit of the vision that all children attain optimal physical, mental and emotional health in order to achieve their greatest potential. The recognition that the experience in the first few days to weeks of life can impact the trajectory of any child’s life, has directed the mission of this Foundation, which is ‘to ensure that every newborn has access to equitable, optimal health care though Capacity building by Equipping, Educating and nurturing Resilience of the healthcare team and the families that they serve ( CEER approach)’. We adopt units in low and middle income countries and partner with the local medical teams, relevant governmental and other aligned organizations, to provide support for the purchase of life-saving equipment, training of nursing and allied health teams and nurturing resilience of the families that they serve with the goal of improving the care delivered to these vulnerable patients and families. Our first adoptee is the Neonatal unit at the University Hospital of the West Indies. The intent is that the improved care delivery, training and expertise will position this institution as one of the quaternary referral institutions for the Caribbean, which supports the state of the art education and training of Community Physicians/Paediatricians/ Nurses on a number of Neonatal related issues, with a resultant impact on the overall neonatal mortality rate in Jamaica.
